African Montessori Hub
The African Montessori Hub (AMH) is an education innovation organization based in Zimbabwe that is working to reimagine learning across Africa through a culturally grounded adaptation of the Montessori method. It operates as both a think tank and “do-tank”, meaning it not only develops ideas and frameworks for education reform but also actively implements programs that bring those ideas to life in communities. At its core, AMH blends Montessori philosophy—child-centered, hands-on, self-directed learning- with African values, knowledge systems, and cultural identity, ensuring that education is relevant, affirming, and rooted in the lived experiences of African children.
AMH’s work focuses on expanding access to high-quality early childhood education, strengthening educators, and cultivating youth leadership. Through initiatives such as educator training, community-based learning programs, and convenings such as the African Montessori Conference (AFMOCON), the organization creates spaces for educators, parents, and young people to rethink education. It also runs leadership and youth programs that connect children to issues like sustainability, human rights, and community development. Ultimately, African Montessori Hub exists to nurture “brilliance” in children, supporting them to grow as confident, culturally rooted, and socially conscious leaders, while contributing to a broader movement to transform education systems across the continent
