Caring for children with developmental delays in Uganda.

Everything we do is to sustain the well-being of children, especially the most vulnerable children and their families as the need a strong social support that acts as a safety net to effectively and sustainably respond to the situation of children and families at risk. The aim is to learn from their experiences and to get to know what works in empowering communities, in achieving local ownership of family strengthening activities, and in being sustainable. We work with families, partners and communities to address complex challenges, ensuring that children enjoy good health, are educated for life, experience the love of God and their neighbors’, and are cared for, protected, and participating. Target beneficiaries are children, parents or guardians, and communities and the expected outcomes include among others Expected Results Early Learning: Children, including those with disabilities, receive quality early education, nurturing care, and stimulation Foundational Learning and Retention: School-age children acquire foundational skills, improve learning outcomes, and complete primary education successfully Equitable Skilling: Adolescents and youth gain relevant skills through inclusive, market-driven programmes with opportunities for transition into employment and adulthood Inclusion and Equity: Targeted support for marginalized populations, including girls, refugees, and youth with disabilities. Key lessons learnt is that initiatives targets children, families selected Uganda communities, focusing on early childhood development, quality inclusive education, and skilling to ensure successful transitions into adulthood. The programme emphasizes equity, inclusion, and lifelong learning for marginalized groups, including girls, refugees, and youth with disabilities. Developing effective community partnerships builds local ownership and sustainability. Partnering with local groups and structures already engaged in community work to assist vulnerable children helps to ensure a durable and locally rooted response. Strengthening families’ works best in a shared responsibility approach. Support to families should be based on their strengths and abilities, not just on their vulnerabilities.
