Preschool - Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Primary School (Grades 1-6)

Objectives/Background

Harmee Academy is dedicated to transforming the educational landscape for children in Nekemt , Ethiopia by providing high-quality, accessible education from early childhood through primary school. In a country where many children face significant barriers to education, such as financial constraints, long travel distances, and limited resources, Harmee Academy aims to be a beacon of hope and opportunity.

The name "Harmee," which means "Mother" in Afan Oromo, aptly reflects our mission to create a nurturing environment where children can thrive. Just as a mother nurture and supports her child’s development, our academy will foster the growth of young minds, ensuring they receive the care, guidance, and knowledge necessary to succeed.

We recognize that education is not just about academic achievement but also about holistic development. Our approach embraces the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth of each child, integrating play-based learning and community involvement into the curriculum. By doing so, we aim to cultivate well-rounded individuals who can contribute positively to their families and society.

Further, Harmee Academy seeks to strengthen family and community bonds through active engagement and collaboration. We will provide opportunities for parents to participate in their children's education through workshops, support programs, and community events, thereby reinforcing healthy relationships and a sense of shared responsibility.

Partnerships & Areas for Strengthening

We are seeking to strengthen specific areas of the project through partnerships, including:

Financial Support: Securing funding, particularly during the pilot phase, to cover initial startup costs. While community members and families are contributing, we require additional capital to ensure the project's successful launch.

Technical Support: Collaborating with organizations that can provide expertise in early childhood education and program development to enhance our curriculum and teaching methodologies.

Teacher Volunteerism: Encouraging teachers to serve as volunteers, fostering a spirit of cultural exchange and enhancing the educational experience for students through diverse perspectives.

We believe that by leveraging these partnerships, we can effectively strengthen the project and create a sustainable educational environment for the community. By doing so, we unlock the potential of children, reflecting Nelson Mandela's assertion that "education is the most powerful weapon to change the world." Through partnerships and collaborative efforts, we can empower the next generation to create positive change in their communities and beyond.
