RARE GEM TALENT SCHOOL: INCLUSION NEURODIVERGENT LEARNERS
Rare Gem Talent School is an inclusive school in Kenya that supports neurodivergent learners using practical, evidence-based approaches. At its core, the school is a safe and nurturing space where children with diverse learning needs—including dyslexia, autism, ADHD, ADD, Down syndrome, and other invisible learning difficulties—feel understood, supported, and valued. Every child is seen as capable, and the environment is designed to help them grow not just academically, but socially and emotionally. The school offers both day and boarding programmes, serving about 200 learners in preschool and primary levels. Learning is based on the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), but it is thoughtfully adapted to meet each child’s unique needs. Teachers use structured literacy and multisensory methods grounded in the Science of Reading, allowing learners to build strong foundations in reading, writing, numeracy, and communication at their own pace. Beyond academics, Rare Gem focuses on the whole child. Learners receive psychosocial support, individualized education plans (IEPs), and therapeutic interventions to help them manage emotions, build confidence, and develop positive self-esteem. Teachers are trained to understand different learning styles, ensuring that each child is engaged in a way that works best for them. A defining strength of Rare Gem is its focus on identifying and nurturing each learner’s unique talents. Through arts, sports, and practical skills, children discover what they are good at and build a sense of purpose and independence. This strength-based approach helps them move beyond their challenges and prepares them for life beyond school. Rare Gem also opens its doors to parents, teachers, and the wider community, serving as a learning and demonstration centre for inclusive education. Through its partnership with Dyslexia Organisation Kenya, the school continues to raise awareness and support early identification and intervention. At Rare Gem, every child is given the opportunity to shine, grow in confidence, and become an independent individual ready to navigate the world.
