Objectives/Background

Project: Establishment of Functioning Two Day Care Centers in Babati District, Manyara Region, Tanzania Organization: Promotion of Integrated Development and Relief Services (PIDERS): Background: Babati District in Manyara Region faces significant challenges related to early childhood care and development. Many families, particularly those in rural and low-income communities, lack access to safe, affordable, and quality day care services for young children. As a result, children are often left under the supervision of older siblings or unattended while parents and guardians engage in farming, small businesses, or other income-generating activities. This situation exposes children to various risks, including poor nutrition, limited early learning opportunities, inadequate health monitoring, and unsafe environments. In addition, the absence of early childhood stimulation and structured learning environments can negatively affect children's cognitive, emotional, and social development. Recognizing these challenges, Promotion of Integrated Development and Relief Services (PIDERS) proposes the establishment of two functioning day care centers in Babati District. The centers will provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where young children can receive proper care, nutrition, early learning support, and protection while their parents or guardians work.: Objectives: Overall Objective. Context/Target Group

Target Group: The primary target group of this project consists of young children aged approximately 0–3 years, particularly those from low-income and vulnerable households in Babati District. Many of these children lack access to early childhood care, stimulation, and safe learning environments while their parents or guardians are engaged in daily economic activities such as farming, small business, or casual labor. The project also directly benefits: Working mothers and single parents who require safe childcare support during working hours, Orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) who may lack adequate supervision and early learning opportunities, Parents and caregivers, who will receive guidance on child development, nutrition, hygiene, and early childhood education. Community / Communities Served : The project will be implemented in selected communities within Babati District of Manyara Region, an area characterized by rural and peri-urban settlements where access to structured early childhood services is limited. The communities largely depend on agriculture, livestock keeping, and small-scale trade as their main livelihoods.

Implementation Approach

  1. Implementation Approach: The project will adopt a community–based, participatory, and inclusive implementation approach to ensure sustainability and local ownership. PIDERS will collaborate closely with local government authorities, community leaders, parents, and caregivers to establish and operate two functional daycare centers that provide safe and supportive environments for young children: The implementation will focus on: Community participation: Engaging local leaders, parents, and community members in planning, establishment, and management of the daycare centers, Partnership with local government: Working with district education and social welfare departments to ensure compliance with national childcare standards, Capacity building: Training caregivers and community members to provide quality early childhood care and development services, Child protection and safety: Ensuring that the daycare centers meet appropriate safety, hygiene, and child protection standards, Sustainability: Establishing community management committees and encouraging local contributions to ensure continued operation after the project period. This participatory approach will promote ownership, accountability, and long-term sustainability of the daycare services. 2. Core Project Activities: 1. Community Mobilization and Sensitization, Conduct community meetings and awareness campaigns about the importance of early childhood care and development, Engage parents, guardians, and local leaders in supporting the daycare centers, Form community daycare management committees., 2. Identification and Preparation of Daycare Facilities: Identify suitable locations for the two daycare centers in collaboration with local authorities, Renovate or construct daycare spaces where necessary, Ensure facilities meet safety, sanitation, and child-friendly standards: 3. Procurement of Daycare Equipment and Learning Materials: Purchase essential equipment such as chairs, tables, mats, toys, learning materials, and sleeping facilities, Provide sanitation and hygiene supplies to maintain a healthy environment for children.: 4. Partnerships & Areas for Strengthening

Partnerships can strengthen several critical areas to improve sustainability, service quality, and community impact. Below are key areas where collaboration would be valuable: 1.
